If you’re an REI member, you know all about the insane deals to be had at their Scratch & Dent sales. I adore these sales because I always find deals that even I, the bargain queen, can hardly believe. Plus, there’s a certain prestige factor, since only REI members are allowed to make purchases from the stash.

It’s not like I can totally look down my nose at non-members, since becoming part of the in crowd only costs $20 for a lifetime membership, but sometimes it’s fun to pretend I’m an “It” girl, even just for a minute. So, anyway, as cliché as it sounds, membership totally has its privileges, and it pretty much pays for itself in one visit, because you get half-off all REI’s equipment rentals, special deals on in-store merchandise, exclusive invites to their sales, discounts on REI travel, an annual dividend refund, and a nifty membership card.

So join the club and get your shop on. There should be plenty to paw through since, you know, I won’t be there to nab it all up. Make me jealous … tell me all about your best find.

The sale runs Saturday (from 9:30 a.m.) and Sunday (from 10 a.m.) at REI , 1125 N. Monroe.
