Turkey Trot? Why Not!
Yesterday Heather (my sweet sister-in-law) and I started a new Thanksgiving tradition: The Turkey Trot. The run – an annual Bloomsday Road Runners Club tradition that benefits 2nd Harvest Food Bank – is held at Manito Park each Thanksgiving Day morning, at 9. Each runner is asked to donate a can of food or a little cash as their cost of admission. And it feels pretty good to know that while you’re working up your own appetite, you’re helping someone else fight hunger. Oh, how I love symbiotic relationships.
I’m not sure how far we ran, somewhere between a 5k and 5 miles (the snow was a little disorienting and I’m not any good at calculating distance even on a snow-free day), but it sure felt good to get out there and brave the elements with a bunch of other heavily layered trotters.
Plus, it made that third piece of pumpkin pie at the end of the day seem just a little less ridiculous.
Check out the BRRC’s calendar for other area runs and races.
