Here’s hoping ‘The Town’ is more than just A town

I haven’t yet gotten out this weekend, certainly not to the movies, which reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite Coen brothers comedies, ” Raising Arizona .” It’s something that fugitive Gale Snoats (John Goodman) says to Edwina McDunnough (Holly Hunter) when she, trying to get rid of Gale and his brother Evelle (William Forsythe), reminds Hi (Nicolas Cage) of a previous commitment.

“So many social engagements,” Gale says with an ironic sigh, “so little time.”

When I do get out, I plan on taking in “The Town.” Not only is the film about Boston bank robbers, but the trailer looks good. And besides its featuring Jeremy Renner (” The Hurt Locker “) and Rebecca Hall (” Vicky Cristina Barcelona “), the film was directed and cowritten by Ben Affleck (who also costars).

I’m still not sure about Affleck as an actor. But as a director, he made one of my favorite films from 2007, the adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel ” Gone Baby Gone .” If that film is any indicator, I’m bound to like, if not love, “The Town.”

Below : The trailer for “The Town.”
