Glatzer dies; an era of Spokane film reviewing ends

The word is spreading: Bob Glatzer died this morning.

If that name means nothing to you, then you either never listened to Spokane Public Radio or you just didn’t care about movie reviews. Bob was the station’s film reviewer, and he was my partner on the movie-review show “Movies 101.”

You can read about his death here and here .

I met Bob sometime in the mid-‘80s. A decade later he asked me to be his “Movies 101” partner, and since I was reviewing films for The Spokesman-Review at the time, I jumped at the chance. Over the years we disagreed many times, but we always retained a sense of mutual respect.

I’ll write more about Bob later. Right now I just want to sit with the loss — a loss to the community, for sure, but one that I feel particularly personally.
