Musical Miercoles

Tricia Jo Webster

Every once in a while, waking up with a smidge of a wine headache is worth it.

Last night I gathered with a group of my favorite girls – Pia, Lucinda and Colleen – at Zola. We drank and talked and laughed and solved all the world’s problems before the check came to the table.

Then, just to prove that all was right in the universe, a single drum beat gave way to a rich, sexy rhythm laced with pops of brass, woodwinds and bass. The music was divine, but even more amazing was the mix of musicians. The age range between the two female saxophone players had to span four decades. A big guy at a side table played one of the smallest flutes I’ve ever seen. And the slide trombone brought it all came together in a mix smooth enough to keep this great world turning. And money makers shaking, of course.
