Sporty Spice, coming to a neighborhood near you …

Tricia Jo Webster

Saturday we were schlepping around the Perry District.

Heather, Cohen (my sis-in-law and adorable nephew) and I thought we were meeting Scotty (my brother) and Eric (the hubs) at South Perry Pizza , but by the time we got to the neighborhood, the boys had already made their way across the street to the Lantern – where, we learned, children are more than welcome to wait outside the fence, but are not, under any circumstances allowed to take up valuable real estate at the tables.

Since we’d forgotten Cohen’s leash at home and didn’t trust his 6-year-old sensibilities enough to hold on to the fence while we went inside for a cold one, Heather and I and the little dude wandered up the street past the spa and the yoga studio to Hai’s for a bucket of frozen ice cream nuggets. Then we wandered back down the street and sat on the bench in front of the Perry Street Café while the big boys continued imbibing.

After about three minutes of watching the kiddo chow chocolate-covered vanilla I got bored, and so walked across the street to the building that was once a neighborhood pharmacy. It’s right next to the Shop (great coffee, always), so naturally I wondered if maybe they were expanding into a larger space. Maybe another cool restaurant was moving in. A bowling alley? In this neighborhood, I truly believe, anything is possible.

Imagine my delight when I discovered that the old pharmacy is not being turned into a book store (although that would be awesome) or a roller derby arena (that would be incredible) but a … wait for it … Title Nine !

I don’t know exactly when this active women’s mecca will open. But it can’t be soon enough! No more shopping for sports bras over the internet. Oh, I am giddy.
