Prepare for SpIFF 2012 and ‘Vision Quest’

Christmas still hasn’t sprung, much less New Year’s, but some of us are already thinking of the 2012 editon of the Spokane International Film Festiva l, which will be held at three different spots — the Magic Lantern, AMC River Park Square, The Garland and The Bing Crosby Theatre — beginning Jan. 26 through Feb 5.

Here are some highlights, all of them featuring movie star Matthre Modine, whose ties to Spokane include his stay here in 1984 when he was filming Harold Becker’s “Vision Quest,” an adaptation of Terry Davis’ young-adult novel of the same title:

Modine will be in town on Friday, Jan. 27, for a couple of events. He’ll give a talk that afternoon at Eastern Washington University, and he’ll appear at 7 that night at The Bing to be interviewed by Spokane author Jess Walter.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, Modine will attend a special auction dinner at 5 p.m. before hosting a 7 p.m. screening of “Vision Quest” at The Garland.

On Sunday, Jan. 29, Modine is expected to participate in the World Shorts event.
