A rainbow connection …
The very first guy I ever really kissed is now a beautiful, successful California Drag Queen. I’m certain he was into feather boas and duct-tape cleavage long before we played tonsil hockey, but, you know, I was young. I thought I could change all that.
Now I’m older. I’ve given up on changing men. But I’ll never give up on trying to figure out how some of them achieve such enviably perky bosoms. Which is one of the reasons I’m intrigued by OutSpokane’s upcoming Date with a Straight: A Night OUT with Our Allies .
The 2nd annual
Date with a Straight
is a 2-night fundraiser for OutSpokane’s 2011 pride Celebration.
The fun-raising begins on Friday night, when 10 pre-selected gay, straight and lesbian participants are auctioned to the highest bidder for a “date” the following night. There’s a $3 cover to get in to the event, and bidding starts at $25. Anyone can bid on any of the 10 auctionees — talk about options! The evening, which begins at 7 with a meet and greet at Irv’s Bar (same block as the Satellite), is hostessed by Nova Kaine and is sure to be memorable, to say the least.
Winners will take their paid-for dates to the Giant Ass Drum Corps Valentine Ball on Saturday night. This formal/semi-formal soiree, themed Dance Through the Decades , is open to everyone, and there’s a $10 cover. If nothing else, you know the music will be awesome, so why not? Don your favorite decade-themed outfit, or just come as you are. But, something tells me you’ll earn extra points for a tiara or wicked heels or excessively long lashes. Work it.

You’ll find Irv’s at 415 W. Sprague.
Saturday night’s ball takes place at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, at 4340 W. Ft. George Wright Drive.
