Time to go back for a … Food Fight!
While spending the weekend in Santa Ynez, Calif. , I didn’t have much chance to see movies. Rural central California isn’t big on metroplexes, only wineries.
So my grad-school buddies and I entertained ourselves by drinking some good beer — kind of a grad-school tribute — and spent the wee hours watching movies on my pal Dave’s 50-inch Samsung LED television.
First up: Well, we all earned our master’s degrees at the University of Oregon . So, we had to watch “Animal House.” Still as funny as ever, even with each of us mouthing the lines of dialogue as the scenes played out.
Second night: Neither Dave nor our friend Tom had ever seen “Blade Runner” all the way through. So, thanks to satellite TV, we watched the director’s cut — the one without the narration. And, yes, it held up, too, even what for me might have been the sixth viewing.
It’s going to take some time for me to get used to the detail that LED screens can convey. It shows up every pore, every line, every … well, everything.
Never thought I would see that much John Belushi.
Below : The one, the only “Animal House.”
