It takes a bit of effort to write effective criticism
I’ve always called movies the great American art form. That’s because when it comes to them, everybody has an opinion. I seldom try to argue the point. The way I see it, if you can make a case for your opinion, then you have a right to that opinion.
If you can’t make your case, of course, you still have a right to your opinion. This is America, after all. It’s just that you’d be an idiot to share it with others.
All too often, though, opinions are delivered in columns that are sloppy and not well thought out. You can see this especially in the work of pundits who should know better, who don’t work at making points but content themselves merely with making grand pronouncements.
As the writer of this column , Bill O’Reilly, does.
If this is viable criticism, there’s no hope for any of us.
