Oops … I did it again

Tricia Jo Webster

I tried Froyo Earth for the first time a couple of weeks ago. What a cool concept!

When you walk into the bright shiny shop you’re greeted by a friendly crew who lead you through the process: Help yourself. Try before you buy (handy little tasting cups provided). Top the good stuff in your bowl with whatever toppings tickle your fancy — from hot Cyrus O’Leary’s pie to Captain Crunch to fresh blackberries. Then set the whole shaboodle on the scale. You’re charged by the ounce, and as Eric reminded me — you don’t have to FILL the cup. But, just in case you can’t help yourself, there’s a 5% discount if you pay with cash. So go ahead, add one more swirl and another scoop of Fruity Pebbles.

My first visit? Swirly mounds of Cake Batter and Georgia Peach yogurts heaped with granola, Reese’s, Whoppers, chocolate covered almonds and cheesecake bites.

Then, Saturday evening after mom’s birthday dinner at Shenanigan’s we all headed back to what is becoming one of my favorite summer spots, formed a line at the whirring freezing machines, and created our own fancy flavorful froyo concoctions. Of course we had to sample … flavors rotate all the time, so there’s always something new to try.

This time I went with the Reese’s Peanut Butter and Cake Batter yogurts, topped with Reese’s chunks, cheesecake bites, Oreo bits and Butterfinger hunks.

It seemed so much less ridiculous when I was heaping it on. But writing it down sort of makes me feel gluttonous and … hungry.

You’ll find Froyo Earth downtown at 172 S. Division (next to Starbuck’s on 2nd); up north at 12519 N. Division (at Wandermere next to Starbuck’s); and soon there’ll be one out in the Valley at 4th and Sullivan (is there a Starbuck’s out there?).
