Cherry Pickers Trot? Why Not?!?

Tricia Jo Webster

I love this run!

It begins with a hamburger and hotdog feed. And if you run fast enough, there are usually hotdogs and hamburgers still grilling upon your return. I don’t run fast enough, but that’s OK because …

There’s also ice cream.

And let’s not forget the Cherry Pit Spitting contest. If that isn’t a sweet little slice of American Pie, I don’t know what is.

Last year was my first time for this run. So many people showed up to register the day of the race that they ran out of bibs, but that’s cool because they gave me four shiny safety pins and told me that would be enough to make me legit for the course. And the course is gorgeous —four miles of paved roads that roll through GreenBluff’s fertile fields.

Last year I also forgot my iPod, but that was OK, too, because there was live music at the start line party that was good enough to get stuck in my head throughout the entire run.

This year I’ll bring my iPod. And I’ll bring a Sharpie and a piece of paper to make my own bib, just in case they run out of numbers again. Because, yes, I forgot to register on time. (But even with the late fee I doubt I’ll pay more than $10.) And the weather’s supposed to be delightful, which means there’ll be carloads of walkers and runners and spitters making their way out to GreenBluff ‘round about supper time. And I know I’m not the only procrastinator in the group. But that’s OK because …

There’s ice cream.

Late registration begins at 5, and the run starts at 7. Get there early. Soak up some sunshine, chat up the person sitting next to you (this is probably one of the friendliest fun runs ever!), chow down a burger, tap your toe to the tunes, then set out on a lovely little run.
