Bridesmaids’ is women behaving comically

Months ago, I saw the trailer for “Bridesmaids. ” I thought at the time that the movie looked hilarious. A bit gross, maybe a female variation on “The Hangover” movies. But still funny.

It is all of that. But that’s not everything “Bridesmaids” is. It’s also gross to the extreme (especially if you’re sensitive to food-poison scenes). And touching in a way that “The Hangover” movies can only dream of.

In fact, “Bridesmaids” is, overall, one of the best movies ever made by a “Saturday Night Live” cast member, Co-written by Kristen Wiig (along with Groundlings member Annie Mumolo), and starring Wiig and fellow SNL comic Maya Rudolph, “Bridesmaids” is a female buddy flick that is certainly as good as “Hangover: Part II,” if not part one.

What’s interesting is that it’s earned just a little more than half the dude buddy flick. The only reason I can see for this is that, as a culture, we’re more comfortable with men acting badly. Not so much our women. Something wrong with that
