Attacks won’t stand up

While well-meaning people can disagree about the issue of legal abortion, I’m concerned about the baseless criticism and misleading attacks on Planned Parenthood by Abby Johnson. It’s important to note that news organizations all over the country have questioned Ms. Johnson’s credibility; it’s unlikely that any charges she makes in her forthcoming book will withstand any serious scrutiny by fact-checkers.

What is true is that Planned Parenthood has been a trusted reproductive health care provider for more than 90 years, offering a full range of health care services. From abortion to family planning, sports physicals and STD testing and treatment, Planned Parenthood has helped millions of Americans in its history.

Planned Parenthood’s most fundamental goal is to help women and families plan healthy pregnancies and prevent unintended pregnancies. In fact, Planned Parenthood does more than any other organization in the U.S. to help women avoid unintended pregnancies and possible abortion.

Ms. Johnson’s change of view is acceptable; her lies about the work and mission of Planned Parenthood are not.
