Park in the dark. Try not to scream in your dreams.

Tricia Jo Webster

The State Line Speedway is featuring classic creepy movies every Saturday night in October. Can you think of a better way to spend a chilly Saturday night than getting the holy crap scared out of you while cuddling up in a foggy-windowed car? I can … getting the holy crap scared out of you while sipping on a Peppermint Patty! The concession stands will be open and you can get your hands on everything from hot dogs to adult beverages (legally … unlike the California Coolers you smuggled in at the East Sprague Drive-In when you were in high school).

Last week was Christine (sorry, I was too busy planning my First Friday plan of attack to tell you earlier).

This Saturday it’s The Ring (which I hear is scary as hell so I probably won’t see it because I am mentally incapable of watching something really frightening and pretending it didn’t happen -– I still won’t touch a TV screen because of what happened to Carol Anne).

Next Saturday it’s my generation’s blood-sucker romance: The Lost Boys . I’m all over this one -– Jason Patrick as Michael the conflicted hot-dude-turned-vampire and his adorable little brother played by pre-reality-show Corey Haim? Tell me you didn’t wish you could be their guide through the dark recesses of the undead a la Jami Gertz.

Then the last weekend in October you’re in for a double feature -– Halloween I & II , which I won’t see either because I just watched the trailer and I’m pretty sure those 2 minutes were enough to give me nightmares for months.

All shows start at 8:30. Watch from your car, bring a lawn chair or take up residence in the grandstands – tickets are only $5 and kids under 12 get in free. Burn barrels will be blazing and popcorn will be popping. (And you might be hiding your eyes behind a blanket –- don’t say I didn’t warn you.)
