Another near-forgotten tale revealed

Thanks to Steven Spielberg, among others, most of us know the name Oskar Schindler — the German industrialist responsible for saving more than 1,000 Jews during World War II by giving them jobs in his factories. Since the nonfiction book “Schindler’s Ark, ” and Spielberg’s film “Schindler’s List,” other World War II saviours have been identified, notably Raoul Wallenberg and John Rabe .

On Sunday, at two special screenings at the Magic Lantern, another WWII hero’s story will be told. The film “Nicky’s Family” documents the tale of Nicholas Winton, a British man who, just before the war broke out, arranged to have some 669 Czech Jewish children transported to England where they were placed in foster homes. The film, which is being cosponsored by Temple Beth Shalom, Our Kids: Our Buiness and the Magic Lantern, will show twice, at 3 and 6 p.m.
