Propitious pints

Tricia Jo Webster

Friday Funday found us gathered ‘round the big green tables at Lucky’s Irish Pub . The place recently opened in the space where The Lamp Post Tavern used to live.

Now, I never set foot inside The Lamp Post, so I don’t know what kind of updates or construction has gone on, but Lucky’s hardwoods were clean, the bathrooms (at least the ladies’) were large enough for a rollerderby and there was an upright piano begging to be played. The beer was cold (as an added bonus they have Irish Death on tap), the bartender was friendly and fast, and the crowd was delightfully eclectic — at one point a drag queen from Irv’s even sashayed in to invite us to a foam party across the street. And if that doesn’t tell you this is a place where memories are made, well, just have another beer and shut up.

You’ll find Lucky’s Irish Pub at 408 W. Sprague, downtown.
