When you don’t want to wait for breakfast …

So there we were, my brother and I, looking for a breakfast spot just before 10 a.m. Now, that’s not exactly a busy breakfast time on a weekday, so I was pretty confident we would find something no problem. As my brother lives in Vinegar Flats, we tried Frank’s Dine r first.

Bad choice. The parking lot was full. I was reminded of the Yogi Berra saying: “Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.”

So we headed to its poor sister down the street: Jenny’s Diner. The one that has changed hands over the past couple of years more times than potholes have caused accidents on Sokane streets. The one that always reminds me of the Honey Bunny/Pumpkin scene in “Pulp Fiction.”

So we checked it out, not for the first time. No problem finding a table. Friendly, competent help. Eggs cooked just the way I like them (over well but not completely hard), bacon crisp, sour dough toast and drinkable coffee. And since we were among only four or five groups waiting to be served, our food came quickly. What more would you want?

As far as I’m concerned, the diner gimmick is overrated anyway.
