The DVD is dead … long live the DVD
I still haven’t accustomed myself to watching films on my computer screen. And, yes, I know I can take advantage of streaming services (such as Netflix ) to screen movies on my television. But, really, I still find it easier simply to load a DVD into my player — especially my Blu-ray player — and just push the start button. So that’s why I still like to frequent the various area Hastings stores.
While they still exist — DVDs, I mean.
Anyway, my brother is far more of a luddite than I am, considering he doesn’t even own a (gasp) comuter, a tablet (another gasp) or even has Internest access (faint). So I continue to take him to the Lincoln Heights Hastings store, where I allow him to take movies out on my account.
We went the other day and rented four movies: “Fright Night” (the lame remake of the 1985 vampire flick), “No Strings Attached” and “Friends With Benefits” (both minor romantic comedies, though I did prefer the latter if only because of the presences of Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis) and “Apollo 18” (the sci-fi horror film that I never got around to seeing).
Let’s hear it for luddites everywhere. We’re going to keep renting DVDs until they pry the remotes from our cold, dead fingers.
