Dan Cummins was as funny as promised

I’m not much of a late-night guy anymore. Not when driving is required. If you’re gonna go out, you’re likely gonna wanna drink. And if you drink, well, it’s just not smart to drive.

But on Saturday night we were invited to attend a comedy show at the Spokane Comedy Club . And we accepted for a couple of reasons. One, the couple who invited us are good friends. Two, the headliner was Dan Cummins, pride of Riggins, Idaho, and graduate of Gonzaga University. That’s Cummins in the photo above with his former college classmate, Jaime Hawk.

So we went, and Cummins didn’t disappoint. His comedy routine, which included everything from comments about people-watching in San Francisco to the night a heckler was handed her just due in a perfect exercise in irony, was relaxed but intense, biting but self-deprecatory and spot-on in terms of self-awareness. I loved what Cummins did so much that I dropped $20 for a DVD of the 2010 Comedy Central special he taped at The Bing Crosby Theater.

I may be watching football at the moment (go Ravens!), but I’ll likely watch the DVD later. First, though, I’ll go and make some more coffee. That’s my drink of choice in the morning.
