If you like steak, then read on …
I’ve tasted all kinds of steak. But I’ve never tasted the kind of steak that you read about in travel magazines , the kind that they brag about costing $100 a plate and more. I mean, really. That’s beyond absurd even in the best of economic times, and these are hardly them.
But then I was cruising through Huckleberry’s yesterday, and I spotted a special on Kobe beef . Really? At only a fraction of what it would cost in a restaurant? Who could resist that? So vowing to eat lentils and rice for the rest of the week — not really a sacrifice anyway — I splurged and bought a pound.
What you see in the picture is half of the prize (the other half my wife claimed, curse her). And how good was it? Well, let’s just say that we inaugurated our first snowy evening of 2012 — an evening preceded by an hour’s worth of snowblowing and shoveling — with one of the best steaks I have ever eaten.
Huckleberry’s just might have some left. Better hurry. I’d go and get more myself. But … well, I made that stupid vow. First-world problems , don’t you know.
