It ain’t The Bulldog anymore …
… not that the tavern pictured above was ever called by that name. But Jack & Dan’s was one of the places that my friends and I thought we might hit before Saturday’s men’s basketball game at Gonzaga University. Since we were gathering some two hours early, we thought we would be able to find a spot at Jack & Dan’s to have a sandwich and beer before the tipoff with the University of San Diego. Wrong. Placed was jammed.
So we went across the street to Pete’s Pizza . Same thing. What to do?
While standing at the corner, we noticed that no one seemed to be in what, for what seems like forever, was known as The Bulldog Tavern. Now called The 1305 Club ( click here to get one perspective on the reasons for the clunky name change), the place was clearly not attractive to GU fans — though I did see at least one pair of season-ticker holders munching on some pre-game sandwiches. Since we had no place else to go, we went in, shared a range of tasty sandwiches, from grilled cheese to what seemed to be, considering the opponen t, the perfect burger — a San Diego Burger, complete with bacon and avocado.
And then we want and watched the Zags win .
So if you’re one of the many who can’t get into the more popular Zag eateries before home games, remember the Bull… er, 1305 Club. According to our server, the owners are certainly willing to change the name. Just suggest a substitute.
Just as long as it isn’t The Bulldog. That name has been taken.
