SpIFF 2012: Second day is for docs

Correction : I’d originally reported that the “Best of Northwest Shorts” Program at the Bing today was supposed to start at 5:30 p.m. WRONG. It starts at 5. Mea cupla.

The 14th-annual Spokane Inernational Film Festival continues tonight at both the Magic Lantern and the Bing Crosby Theater. As usual, festgoers have some choices to make.

The Magic Lantern features an evening of documentaries: “The Green Wave” screens at 5:30 p.m. in the 100-seat theater, followed by “Waking the Green Tiger: The Rise of a Green Movement in China” at 7:30 and the narrative film “The Selling” at 10. In the smaller, 30-plus-seat house, the documentary “The Kingdom of Survival” screens at 5:45, followed by “Question Onel” (which is sold out) at 7:45.

Meanwhile, at the Bing, a program of short films, “Best of the Northwest Shorts,” screens at 5 (I’d originally reported 5:30). Then the evening’s feature presentation, a conversation between Jess Walter and Matthew Modine, follows at 7 (the two will discuss the movie business, keying specifically on Modine’s short “Jesus Was a Commie”). The night at the Bing ends with the Swiss film “Der Sandmann” (“The Sandman”) at 9.
