A wee bit o’ Scotland returns to Spokane

In May of 1976, I spent 10 days taking trains through Scotland. I hit Edinburgh, St. Andrew’s, Pitlochry, Inverness, the Isle of Skye and Glasgow before ending up back in Edinburgh. And it was a terrific time.

The closest I’ve been to Scotland since has been to British Columbia, Canada, where in some spots you can still hear a Scottish brogue. But a bit of Scotland is coming to Spokane, as it does annually, on Saturday, Aug. 4, when the 54th Spokane HIghland Games will take place at the Spokane County Fairgrounds.

Should be fun. Wonder if they’ll be serving haggis .
