Third SIFF weekend is delicious

It was another long weekend in Seattle, during which I saw only three movies but spent some good times with friends and had a couple of decent meals.

The movies I saw were at the Seattle International Film Festival , which continues its run through next weekend. I saw a documentary about Tunisia’s 2010 revolution, “Rouge Parole.” A mostly funny documentary about life in contemporary Italy titled “Italy: Love It or Leave It.” And a historical narrative film titled “Xingu” about the early efforts to protect Brasil’s indigenous tribes. Many movies from the nearly 500-film schedule are still waiting to show, so think about attending next weekend.

The first decent meal I had over the weekend took place at the Palace Kitchen , which I went to with my pals Leslie Kell y and her husband John Nelson — both of whom were my colleagues at The Spokesman-Review. The photo above is of some of the appetizers we enjoyed, which included about 17 different types of salami and some garlic-infused coutons over which were draped some quail eggs.

On Sunday, we ate with another of our friends, the blogger-critic Bruce Betz , at a Queen Anne Italian eatery called Via Tribunali . And the pizzas we consumed there were as authentic as pecorino cheese.

Thus ended our Seattle stay. Back home to the land east of the Cascades. And our own collection of decent eateries.
