Good chance to enjoy a two-fer
I like the fact that the Saranac Building (pictured above) offers you a chance to do a two-fer. One, you can see any number of movies (the way I watched “Albert Nobbs” on Sunday at the Magic Lantern) . Two, you can then head in for a drink at the Saranac Public House (though not today because the theater is closed on Mondays).
By the way, the Lantern features the annual Jewish Film Festival, which begins on Thursday. Access the films and schedule here.
I saw a screening of the opening-night movie, the documentary “Ahead of Time,” in November. It was a free feature associated wtih the Rome International Film Festival, which made it an especially appealing treat. Even more, the film offers something not widely appreciated: access to the life and times of a pioneer journalist, Ruth Gruber, who not only blazed trails for women but who fought against antisemitism and covered some of the great stories of the mid-20th century.
Below : The trailer for “Ahead of Time.”
