Peas porridge hot: Get yourself a loving spoonful
A couple times a month Eric and I hit Soulful Soups for their Thursday Night Trivia. So far the closest we’ve come to winning the contest is one point away from first. Which is great, but almost-winning feels an awful lot like losing.
Thankfully there’s always a warm pot of goodness in which we can drown our sorrows of mediocrity. To be honest, there’s typically an initial round of whining from the hubster when I suggest we order a couple of bowls. Because, you know, meat-and-potatoes men should never consider soup a “real” dinner. Those misgivings are squelched — every time — with the first lovin’ spoonful. You see, the soups here are more what I refer to as “stoups” … a glorious cross between soup and stew. Rib sticking in every possible way, but not heavy enough to make you feel like a bloater. Throw a slab of their delectable bread on the plate and you have a meal not even a lumberjack could scoff at.
Find Soulful Soups downtown, at 117 N. Howard.
