Last chance to see ‘Blue Is the Warmest Color’ at AMC
Word came today that “Blue Is the Warmest Color” — the controversial French film playing at AMC River Park Square — is leaving after a single week. That means you have three more days in which to see it.
I’d suggest giving it a shot. Yes, it is a challenging movie, one that is bound to upset any number of viewers. One, it boasts some graphic sex. Two, the sex is almost exclusively woman on woman. Three, the actresses — Lea Seydoux and Adele Exarcholpoulos — have complained about the director’s treatment of them during production. Four, it’s a nearly three-hour-long movie … in French.
So, yes, I understand the problem. At the same time, “Blue Is the Warmest Color” is a touching, poignant study of a young woman’s coming of age. Read this review .
Plus, Seydoux and especially the unknown Exarchopoulos are superb. If graphic sex turns you off, then close you eyes during the eight minutes they do their naked grappling (out of a 179-minute running time).
The director, Tunisian-French filmmaker Abdellatif Kechiche , has made a pretty memorable, remarkable movie. If nothing else, watching it will give you something to (choose your favorite) discuss/argue about/fantasize about/scream at when the theater lights go up.
Isn’t that why we go to the movies?
