Sis: Smile When You Say ‘Astroturf’
Sisyphus (re: “Strategery: Luna Laws had poor PR” ): Oh please. “Astroturfing” applies to the big business interests who called themselves “concerned parents” and endeavored to hide the fact that they were actually the very wealthy non-citizens, including billionaire Michael Bloomberg. If anything the IEA and NEA support was a detriment in the campaign. Both the unions and their big business opponents spent virtually equal amounts of money, with “independent” reform advocates like Vandersloot making massive last minute expenditures on Luna’s behalf.
Question: I’d never heard of the term “astroturf” — other than in baseball terms — until I saw it applied to the Tea Party movement. Now, Jeff has applied it to the IEA support for Luna Laws. What does it mean to you?
