Festivus for the art in us
This weekend marks the 28th annual occurrence of ArtFest . The grounds surrounding the MAC come alive with colors and shapes and sounds that, for me, sort of open the door to inspiration. Every year I wander the stalls, talk with artists and craftsmen, and marvel at creativity. I also spend a fair amount of time sitting in the grass, listening to music and watching the colorful array of Spokanites who descend on the festival; really, the people watching is almost as mesmerizing as the art that’s on display all weekend. So, whether you’re in need of something new to hang on your walls, or a new character for a story you’re working on, this is the place.
The festival runs Friday from noon-8; Saturday 10-8; and Sunday from 10-5. The Beer & Wine Tent is open until 10 on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Make-It-Art Tent is open Friday from 3-7; Saturday from 11-7 and Sunday from 11-5. Each activity costs $2, and your little artists can choose to partake in any or all of the following: Crowns & Wands; Fish Prints; Jewelry; Masks; Paper Bag Hats; or Face Painting.
You’ll find ArtFest and the MAC at 2316 W. First Avenue, in Browne’s Addition.
