Benghazi is over
The Spokesman-Review’s Nov. 22 headline, “Panel rejects Benghazi theories,” by Ken Dilanian, brought closure to me regarding the false accusation made by Republican leaders and Fox News commentators about the attack on Benghazi. They accused the Obama administration of being involved in a dark conspiracy and cover-up regarding the attack on our U.S. diplomatic compound at Benghazi, Libya, in 2012 that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
After two years of study, on Nov. 21, the Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee investigating the Benghazi attack released its findings.
The committee found no wrongdoing by President Obama’s administration appointees, including then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The committee spent thousands of hours going over documents, intelligence reports, asking questions and held some 20 hearings costing the taxpayers millions of dollars. These findings were similar to six previous investigations by House Republican-led committees and a State Department panel. Some attackers said they were offended by a video that was offensive to Muslims.
As an Independent, I hope the new Congress next month, which will be controlled by Republicans in both the House and Senate, will work together with the president to get important bills passed.
