I can still hear that thunk
I sort of feel sorry for those who never had the experience of punching a clock at their workplace.
Assuming you didn’t hate your job, there was something satisfying about inserting that stiff paper card into the tight jaws of the time-stamp device and hearing that distinctive sound.
I punched a clock at a restaurant in downtown Burlington, Vermont, and at a college dining hall in Flagstaff, Arizona.
