Paul’s People, No. 40

Tyson chose Ball State over Northwestern.

OK, where were we?

Oh, yeah.

This is my friend Tyson Bird. I have been corresponding with him since he was in grade school over near Sandpoint. Back then he was the editor of the Sagle Scoop.

Today, he is about to start his second year at Ball State University in Indiana. He is studying journalism.

I first met Tyson in person a few years ago when he and some other high school kids came to visit the S-R newsroom. He is a sharp young man.

One of my favorite Slice contributions from Tyson appeared in my column on Jan. 22, 2006. He was 10 then and recalled how his little brother used to call hiking “halking.”

“He would say to us, “Mommy, I’m halking!’”

Cracked him up. Me, too.

Good luck at school this fall, Tyson.
