Have you had email auto-reply misadventures?

You know how you can set your email to send automatic replies explaining that you are out of the office?

Sure. Well, it’s good in theory. But I never really know when it’s on and when it is off. This confusion partly stems from having different settings for internal email and email received from people outside the newspaper.

Once, when I was off for a week in December, I managed to have my auto-reply report that I would be back in the office in October.

I usually produce columns in advance to run while I am away. But that would have been a stretch.
