The unintentional grope

Here’s something I have wondered about.

Can women always tell if a man who accidentally touches them inappropriately really did not do it on purpose?

I hope so.

A couple of years ago, I was at lunch with a colleague at a downtown Spokane restaurant. As we were about to leave, I stood up and was putting on my jacket. In the process of doing this, I extended my right arm as I slipped it into the sleeve. I was talking to my still-seated lunch companion and facing him.

As my hand emerged from the sleeve it wound up smack dab on a waitress. To be specific, it momentarily came to rest on a part of the waitress intended for feeding infants.

Naturally, I apologized like mad. And I hope she believed me.

With any luck, she guessed that I am not a good enough actor to produce my contrite expression on demand.
