Women eating bananas at work

I honestly do not remember how it came up.

But a female colleague once told me she would not consider consuming a banana at work the way men do. Instead, she said, she would place the piece of fruit on a plate and use a knife and fork. Or at least a fork.

Of course, I knew what consideration guided her thinking. And I don’t recall questioning it, even though the S-R newsroom doesn’t seem infested with Beavis & Butthead male personalities.

I have wondered how many women share her attitude about this. Seems sort of sad. I guess Tammy Wynette was right.

I suppose I could ask the question in my column, but the subject seems slightly over the line for my print readers.
