Sowa will be missed

I am a local small businessman who moved here 10 years ago and, to a great degree, discovered the connectivity of our special business community via Tom Sowa’s excellent work. Tom’s Dec. 18 report on a local businessman supporting the arts community reminded me how much I will miss his contributions.

If Spokane is to thrive, neighbors must buy from other neighbors’ businesses in a manner that limits freight costs and keeps money in Spokane, but also limits the carbon involved in moving those goods, allowing us to be good environmental stewards. Tom’s work has helped build our local knowledge base.

When my firm has received press in the past, I’m always happy to talk to someone about our experiences. I know that after reading The Spokesman-Review’s business section, I have picked up the phone myself and learned a thing or two.

I’m confident that I can do without eight separate stories on high school sports. I’m not sure I like the thought of having less business coverage. Maybe, in 100 years, this letter thanking Tom will appear again in the pages of the S-R, and that future will be cool with a condensed high school sports section.
