Do old guys create a friendly vibe?
There’s a widely held view that a lot of men of a certain age are just sour old fudges (only I didn’t say “fudge”) who move through the day being killjoys wherever they go.
There is some truth to that.
But it could be argued that having old guys out and about actually makes a city seem friendlier.
Why? Because once your vision starts to go, you start waving at people in the distance who turn out not to be the person you thought you were waving at. Happens a lot.
A little embarrassing maybe. But all these misdirected waves can’t help but contribute to a slightly more cheerful civic vibe.
So next time you encounter an old guy with failing eyesight, thank him for helping to make Spokane a more friendly place.
