A cultural collision

Here’s a note I got from a former deskmate here at the S-R.

“Hey Paul,

“I took the kids to the new ‘Peanuts’ movie yesterday,” she wrote. ”(It’s really wonderful, by the way, Very sweet.) Anyway, when all the characters were running around on the screen and that iconic Vince Guaraldi piano score was playing, I flashed back to 2005 (I think). A local TV station was airing the Charlie Brown Christmas special and just as the characters were happily dancing to that piano music, the crawl at the bottom of the screen announced the results of the special election to recall Jim West as mayor. He was ousted, of course. Quite a dichotomy.

“And how has it been 10 years since that happened?”
