Is the “Feed” on the endangered list?
When I moved to Spokane in the late 1980s, I noticed the “Feed.”
You know, “Hamburger Feed,” “Spaghetti Feed,” et cetera.
Often, that expression was used to describe fundraisers staged by civic organizations or fraternal orders for various good causes.
Anyway, I was not familiar with the phrase but I liked it. My wife did, too.
“They’re having a hamburger feed in Davenport,” she’d say. “Want to go?”
I think I actually did go to a feed in Sprague one time, back when I was doing the Being There column. Can’t recall what kind of feed.
But I don’t see that expression as much these days. In fact, I hardly see it at all.
Is the “Feed” on the way out? I hope not.
