“I’m not going to devote any time to getting to know this person because he or she isn’t apt to be here long.”

Sure, it might not be all that warm or welcoming. And, of course, you could be wrong about how long someone is going to stick around.

But in the instances where you are right about someone being a Spokane short-timer, not investing yourself in a new relationship can be a hell of time-saver.

Some newcomers think we’re not friendly. That’s not it at all. We just have reason to believe, in some cases, they won’t be here long.
