When the viewing platform on Bloomsday press truck collapsed

It was in 1988.

And it happened just as the elite runners started on Riverside. The press truck lurched forward and a platform made of wood came apart. Photographers and others were spilled onto the street directly in front of the elite runners.

I don’t recall anyone being hurt. But I remember S-R photographer Shawn Jacobson hit the ground running and started taking pictures almost instantly.
