Fires force Porcupine Bay evacuation at Lake Roosevelt

WILDFIRES —  Due to the Hart Road Fire burning north of Davenport, Washington, Porcupine Bay Campground, day-use and boat launch has been closed until further notice, according to a release by the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area.

All visitors to Porcupine Bay Campground and day-use area were safely evacuated on Sunday afternoon, today’s release said.

The boat ramp is a popular launch for fishermen on the Spokane River Arm of Lake Roosevelt.

Nearby Two Rivers Resort across the Spokane Arm on the Spokane Indian Reservation remains open and is not currently threatened by the fire, a staffer said on the phone this morning. “The way the wind is blowing, we’re OK,” she said.
