I spoke too soon
This round of autograph stories would not be complete without one of these.
“Back in the ‘60s when the Spokane Indians were the triple A affiliates with the Dodgers, my Dad would take me to see them ALL the time,” wrote Bill Bancroft. “On Baseball Giveaway Day I was able to get Tommy Lasorda, Steve Garvey, Bill Buckner, Bobby O’Brien, Bobby Valentine’s and many other notable autographs on the baseball. I kept it stashed away for years.
“One day in the summer of 1978, I was on the road with my band and my brother and my brother-in-law decided to play catch with it in the side yard. Upon my return, it was grass stained, dirty and scuffed up. Needless to say, not ONE autograph was visible.
“Man, that HURT!”
