Rating the newsroom Ducks fans
The University of Oregon’s winning basketball team is coming to Spokane for the NCAA tournament.
That means this might be a good time to think back about the various U of O grads who have graced the S-R newsroom with their presence in the 28 years I’ve been here.
Mr. Mild Mannered: He was a model fan. Didn’t bring it up unless you did first.
Mr. Fire the Coach: He said he knew a girl who was in “Animal House” when he was a student in Eugene, which I regarded as pretty interesting.
Mr. Long Suffering: He had watched the Ducks go through years of losing to the California schools, so it was impossible to begrudge him his pleasure in their rise.
Mr. Irrelevant: I don’t think he even went to Oregon, but when they started winning in football the quacking began.
Mr. Know It All: The thing is, he really does know it all. Never talks Ducks unless you start it, though. I like him.
Mr. Less Said About Him the Better:
That One Kid: Can’t remember his name now. Wasn’t here long. But he seemed like a nice guy.
She Duck: I think she is too young to remember UO’s losing years, but I had a sense she would still have rooted for her team even if they were no good.
Mr. and Mrs. Duck: I like them both, so their rooting for their school simply seemed appropriate. And it is.
If I’m forgetting someone, it might be on purpose.
