Honor birth mothers, too
On Mother’s Day across our country, mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers and adoptive mothers will rightly be acknowledged and honored, but many other mothers will be forgotten.
Every year there are tens of thousands of birth mothers who, when faced with an unplanned pregnancy and often in a position of not being able to adequately care for their baby, make the decision to nurture their baby through birth and then give the infant to another mother to raise through adoption.
In our opinion, this is the ultimate expression of a mother’s love. Rather than making a decision of convenience or selfishness, they act selflessly and courageously to give life to their child, and then, they act selflessly to give the best life possible to that child.
Knowing a few of these mothers, we know they have acted out of love, and even though they believe they did the right thing, they may wonder and still carry the burden of missing their child. We think that these mothers should be honored for their selfless and courageous action. If you know one, please let her know that she is honored among mothers.
