“I smiled when I read your mother’s pronunciation of the fair city to the west. When our daughter was about 2, we told her we were taking her to Seattle. We’d go to the zoo, Space Needle, see big boats, etc. She listened patiently, and then finally asked, ‘But Mama, who IS she?’

“I figured out right away she wanted to know who this Attle person was that we were going to see. Now when we visit her home in Seattle, we just say we’re going to Attle.”
