Why WSU fans are willing to overlook football coach’s Trump endorsement

Here are 10 theories.

1. Winning is all that matters.

2. Fans in question are themselves Trump backers.

3. Recognition that a person has a right to a political opinion.

4. Football and politics have nothing to do with each other.

5. For the same reason they would overlook it if he had endorsed Clinton.

6. Hopes are high for this season, so fans are willing to wear blinders.

7. A coach’s political views are not even among the Top 10 real problems with big-time college athletics.

8. They just look at the sports section. Hadn’t heard about it.

9. Football is a church/state thing.

10. They root for the school (and, by extension, the team), not the coach.
