Thank you, President Obama

I want to give a heartfelt “thank you” to President Obama for doing a fantastic job as president under difficult circumstances. I don’t imagine anyone would want to start their first term during a recession (let alone a “Great” one), and two unpopular wars in distant lands. For most of his tenure he struggled to work with a petulant Congress to repair the economy, further Civil Rights legislation, support the legalization of gay marriage and pass the Affordable Care Act.

And though his presidency was not perfect, it was free from scandal. As a millennial voter who cut my teeth with the 2000 election, it made me so proud to be able to vote for someone I genuinely wanted to be president, not vote against someone I didn’t.

As we are about to embark upon “interesting times” with Trump’s incoming presidency, I want to bid adieu to someone who didn’t just make America great, he made America good.
