No scientific expert
It’s safe to say that Sue Lani Madsen is no scientific expert, but her June 3 rant against climate science is a new low. She thinks she knows better than the entire global scientific community, after the largest scientific inquiry of all time? No, she does not. She thinks there was a “1970s consensus that the Earth is cooling?” No, there was not. She thinks the U.S. can betray the entire world, reversing our Paris Accord commitments without dire consequences? Not a chance.
The climate clock is ticking. All the world’s major scientific academies say we must quickly de-carbonize our economy. World peace and prosperity are on the line, along with millions of lives, and the entire world has finally agreed to act. Closer to home, wildfire seasons have lengthened by more than a month, summers are becoming choked with smoke, and the upper Spokane River sometimes dries to ponds in August.
If The Spokesman-Review employs political propagandists to spread the lie that none of these threats is real, then we have a problem, you and I. Free speech does not include the right to tell people in a burning building to ignore the fire department.
